A long time it seemed since we were last at Kimbolton and out of the championship running due Super One commitments leading to missed rounds so a relaxed weekend for some fun.
Testing went well and Lucas got back into the track straight away. Pace wise we were looking strong and all Global Karting drivers were looking to be leading the way come race day.
3 Lap practice went well with Lucas heading the table with a fastest time of 50.53 with Global drivers Lomliev in 2nd, Watts 9th and McLean 12th.
Race Format was 3 heats and a final so no TQ and random grid slots for the heats.
Heat 1
Lucas was drawn 8th with teammates on 2, 4 & 6 so a Global Karting train which could hopefully break away.
Start and into the 1st turn there was the enevitable loading and some karts were spun out.......Lucas moved up to P4 on the 1st lap and then led from Lap 2 with Charter managing to break the following train and push away to take the flag 2.8 seconds ahead of Global teammates Watts in 3rd, Lomliev 4th & McLean in 16th after multiple contact incidents in the race.
Heat 2
A P7 start for this heat so ideal opportunity to get good points and another win. Lights out and a slow start losing time on teh karts in front. Lucas got to work and started making his way through on Lap to, up to 5th with teammate Lomliev following him through. Lap 3 into 3rd and Lap 4 hit the lead and try to push away from the chasing group. Lap 6 saw the leading Global Karting trio pull away with Lucas leading, Lomliev in 2nd and McLean 3rd.
The idea was to push away until the last lap then racce each other for the win but on Lap 8 Lomliev went for the lead, this prompted the 'race' to the flag to start full bore and unfortunately contact between Lomliev and McLean resulted in a spin for McLean and gave Lomliev a 4 kart gap.....Lucas chased this down and caught Lomliev, who was defending, on the back straight with 2 corners to go, Lomliev defends in to the 2nd from last corner so Lucas takes a wide line to get the run through the last corner which Lomliev defends well but at the cost of pace out on to the straight and Lucas takes a smooth line which allows a move over the left kink on the straight to win by 7/100th of a second.
Two for Two.
Heat 3
P18 Start, again wiht teammates on P14, P12 & P10 & feeling strong so need a good finishing position to grab Pole in the final.
Lights out and wondering how Dude will fare into Turn 1 in the middle of the pack with the enevitable carnage but threads his way through making places up on lap 1 to come over the line in 9th.
Dude keeps workign forward and by Lap 6 he is in 3rd with teammates Lomliev in 5th and McLean 8th. Mason, the British E plate driver is leading and the Global boys go in relegating Mason to 4th and then start to push away but Lomliev runs wide out of a corner which allows Lucas to take the lead.
The lead is short lived as Lomliev goes back in to take the lead and this is how they finish, Lomliev winning, Lucas 2nd 8/100ths behind and McLean 3rd....top 3 for Global.
Final
With the points from the heat finishes worked out this put Lucas on pole, Lomliev 2nd, Watts 6th and due to misfortune McLean 9th.
The boys needed to get together and push away from the other 23 drivers......
Lined up for the start and the weather was getting colder. The 1st start happens but near to the end of the lap there is an incident that brings out the red flag so the race is restarted.
A slow start from Lucas allowed a questionable start from teh two karts behind him to drive past into T1.
Lap 1 Lucas moved back in to P2 and started to push away with the E plate and Charter.....Lap 3 Lucas decided that they were not going fast enough wo took the lead and tried to get away but never really managed to break away as he was on his own and the two behind had the benefit of pushing to keep on his bumper at the end of straights, next corner Lucas would gap them again then a straight and they'd pull it back......this went on for 6 laps until on Lap 9 Charter went for a move into 2nd and pushed away with Lucas and this is how they took the flag.........LUCAS GETTING HIS 1ST LONG OVERDUE MSA WIN!!!!!
Charter took 2nd and a great move on the last lap saw McLean take the final podium spot with Lomliev in 4th.
A strong showing for the team and dominance by Lucas all weekend with a much deserved top step conclusion to all the effort.
Big thanks to Global Karting, Zip Karts for the chassis and RPM Engines for the power.
